The Civil War is Caesar’s masterly account of the celebrated war between himself and his great rival Pompey, from the crossing of the Rubicon in January 49 B.C. to Pompey’s death and the start of the Alexandrian War in the autumn of the following year. His unfinished account of the continuing struggle with Pompey’s heirs and followers is completed by the three anonymous accounts of the Alexandrian, African, and Spanish Wars, which bring the story down to within a year of Caesar’s assassination in March 44 B.C. This generously annotated edition places the war in context and enables the reader to grasp it both in detail and as a whole.

There is great political document that Caesar not only reports on events that have occurred, but his case shows why his case should prevail. The war was caused by a political situation that was simmering for years and now had to boil the cause of Caesar and the populares and. Companion to the conquest of Gaul – great things for historians
It ‘hard not to love Caesar when you read it, but I do not exactly like his version of the story (I like most Pompeo) so my reading was probably flawed from this point of view.
Oh, never mind … ended because it was really good. Through the reading of the Gallic War and the Civil War, I realized that I am not a fan of military history. I prefer cheating politicians.
Even today, nearly 2000 years after the events took place inside, they are always great reading. Unlike some of his contemporaries – Plutarch comes to mind – the prose is clean and direct Casear. When you write of battles, his first-hand knowledge shines: sometimes it feels like a conversation with the leader. But when he writes of how he saved the person or the city, showing how it could be merciful, he attacked the general reader (although it should be noted that it was quite mild a lot more than some of the people who followed him as emperor).
Anyone who is really interested in getting to the bottom of this genesis quasi-Christian should read this book. E ‘imperative.
